ROCKWALL, Texas — Another massive baptism event is drawing attention to what some Christian leaders and observers describe as signs of spiritual awakening across the United States.
Lakepointe Church, a multisite congregation in the Dallas area, baptized 882 people across eight campuses on Sunday, September 27, according to the church and multiple reports.
The event came only two weeks after Biltmore Church in North Carolina baptized 458 people in a single day, raising a question many Christians are asking: Are these isolated church events, or signs of something larger happening?
882 People Enter the Water
Lakepointe Church described the baptism total not merely as a statistic but as hundreds of individual stories of people publicly identifying themselves with Jesus Christ.
Senior Pastor Josh Howerton celebrated the event after the baptisms, describing himself as physically tired but spiritually encouraged. Reports indicate that 700 people had planned to be baptized, while another 182 responded during the services, bringing the total to 882.
Among the stories highlighted by the church was a couple who were married and baptized on the same day. In another family, three generations were baptized together.
The number also represents significant year-over-year growth. Lakepointe baptized 682 people during its comparable baptism event in 2025, exactly 200 fewer than this year’s total.
North Carolina Saw Something Similar
The Texas event follows another extraordinary baptism gathering CNIR recently reported.
On September 13, approximately 4,000 people gathered at a lake in Fletcher, North Carolina, where Biltmore Church baptized 458 people during its annual outdoor baptism service.
It was the largest single-day baptism in the congregation’s 137-year history.
Biltmore’s numbers have also been rising. The church recorded 686 baptisms during all of 2025 and had already reached 636 baptisms in 2026 following the September event. Church leaders said they expected the annual number to exceed 700.
Is This Revival?
That question requires some caution.
Large baptism numbers by themselves cannot establish that America is experiencing a nationwide Christian revival. Baptism events can reflect many factors, including the size and growth of individual congregations, evangelistic outreach and churches intentionally concentrating baptisms into major annual events.
But the numbers remain significant.
Two large churches in two different states have now reported 1,340 baptisms combined during major September events.
More importantly for the churches involved, those numbers represent individuals publicly professing Christian faith.
Biltmore Lead Pastor Bruce Frank emphasized that his congregation’s focus is not simply attracting crowds but making disciples. He said many of those being baptized are adults reached through church members sharing their faith personally with neighbors, friends and coworkers.
Something Worth Watching
Whether historians will eventually describe this period as a genuine American revival remains an open question.
But within two weeks, hundreds entered the waters in North Carolina—and hundreds more followed in Texas.
For Christians watching developments across America’s churches, 1,340 baptisms in two major events are difficult to ignore.
Perhaps the more important question isn’t simply, “Is revival happening?”
It is:
What happens in the lives of these 1,340 people after they leave the water?
That may ultimately provide a much stronger measure of revival than the numbers themselves.
