The Internet Computer (ICP) digital token is already one of the largest cryptocurrencies in the world, with a market value of about $45 billion. That makes it the eighth-largest digital asset among the top 10 on CoinMarketCap.com’s rankings. This new project is barely a week old, as was launched On May 7th, 2021. The Swiss-based project has several prominent backers, including Silicon Valley venture capitalists, Andreessen-Horowitz and Polychain Capital.
The ICP token is the world’s first blockchain that runs at web speed with unbounded capacity. It also represents the third major blockchain innovation, alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. Dominic Williams, founder and chief scientist of the Dfinity Foundation described the project stating;
“The project has a singular purpose, and that is to relentlessly expand the capabilities of public blockchain and the decentralized ecosystem using advanced computer science and cryptography, and to make blockchain the platform of choice upon which we can reimagine all our systems and services,” he said.
This project has been introduced with very high expectations. Due to the project’s popularity, it has already procured a spot on Coinbase Pro, while other tokens had to wait years. Without a doubt, the ICP project is an awesome project and has all the main ingredients to succeed. Nevertheless, where it goes from here remains to be seen.
