A shocking tale of betrayal and deceit unfolded in a Nevada courtroom as Kristy Lynn Felkins, a 38-year-old woman from Fallon, received a five-year prison sentence for attempting to hire a hitman on the dark web to murder her ex-husband. The sinister plot, driven by greed and vengeance, involved paying $5,000 in bitcoin to make the murder look like an accident.
Felkins, who pleaded guilty to murder-for-hire in March, struck a deal with federal prosecutors to avoid trial, court records revealed. U.S. District Court Judge in California also ruled that Felkins must serve three years under supervision following her prison term.
The disturbing saga began in 2016 when Felkins initiated contact with an individual on a dark web hitman website, which, as authorities later confirmed, was a scam designed to swindle unsuspecting customers. Felkins conspired to have her ex-husband killed while he was traveling in Chico, California.
In a chilling statement entered into the court record, Felkins admitted offering an additional $4,000 to expedite the murder plot. Shockingly, she expressed a complete lack of concern for her ex-husband’s new girlfriend, stating she “did not care” if harm befell her during the execution of the plan.
According to court records, Felkins anticipated a substantial life insurance payout upon her ex-husband’s death, instructing the hitman to stage the murder as a tragic accident. She allegedly inquired if it was possible to make the killing appear like a botched mugging.
Felkins, who had been free on bail, will now have to surrender in September to begin serving her prison sentence, reflecting on the consequences of her malevolent intentions and the depths to which she sank in pursuit of her sinister motives.
