Kosovo Police Crack Down on Crypto Mining Operation in Mitrovica

In the global mining crypto crackdown, Kosovo police have taken decisive action against an alleged large-scale cryptocurrency mining operation. According to reports from Radio TV Kosovo (RTK), law enforcement in Kosovo seized 59 cryptocurrency mining computers in the predominantly Serb region of Mitrovica.

Police spokesman Veton Elsani revealed that the operation targeted two houses in Mitrovica North. Despite the significant confiscation of mining equipment, no arrests were made during the operation.

Kosovo authorities have accused the Serb population in Mitrovica of conducting extensive cryptocurrency mining activities within privately owned buildings. This alleged operation has reportedly led to a substantial consumption of electricity, with unpaid bills accumulating as a result. The authorities further claim that residents in the northern municipalities owe considerable amounts for power bills.

This move by Kosovo police signals a crackdown on unauthorized cryptocurrency mining, highlighting the government’s commitment to regulating and controlling the crypto landscape within its borders. As cryptocurrency operations face increasing scrutiny globally, this incident adds to the ongoing discussions surrounding the environmental impact and legal implications of such activities.
