While some crypto enthusiast were disenchanted Saturday night during Elon Musk’s appearance hosting Saturday Night Live (SNL), others still believe that the meme token will survive. Some analysts believe that Musk while hosting the show, put a negative spin on the token call it a “hustle” during the weekend review comedy skit.
While Dogecoin’s price may have failed to launch to the proverbial moon, news broke today that SpaceX will accept Dogecoin as payment to launch a lunar mission next year. SpaceX will launch the “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon” in the first quarter of next year, with Elon Musk’s commercial rocket company accepting the meme-inspired cryptocurrency as payment.
In a statement Sunday, Geometric Energy Corp. announced the “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon,” the first-ever commercial lunar payload will be paid entirely with dogecoin. The company will team with SpaceX to send a 40-kg satellite to the moon on a Falcon 9 rocket in the first quarter of 2022.
The price of Dogecoin, which was around $0.69 cents before the show started Saturday night, but plunged as low as $0.47 cents. By Sunday evening, it rebounded to about $0.57 cents, according to Coinmarketcap.
