Now more than ever American sport teams are opening up to cryptocurrency payment opportunities. Last month, the Dallas Mavericks, owned by Mark Cuban, also began accepting bitcoin as a payment method. Cuban announced the Mavs would become the first pro team to accept Dogecoin. The Sacramento Kings became the first NBA team to accept Bitcoin as a payment option in the arena in January 2014 through Bitpay. In 2018, the team announced that it became the first professional sports team in the world to mine cryptocurrency through a charitable program called Miningforgood.

Earlier this year, the A’s made full-season suites available for one Bitcoin, becoming the first MLB team to price a ticket offering in cryptocurrency. The team is accepting payment through Bitpay and will issue the tickets digitally via the MLB Ballpark app. Current state health guidelines limit general stadium seating to pods of two or four, and suites up to six guests.
